The International Day for the Abolition of Slavery is observed annually on December 2 to commemorate the adoption of the UN Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and of the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others. The day raises awareness of modern forms of slavery, such as human trafficking, forced labor, forced marriage, and the worst forms of child labor, while remembering the history of the slave trade. It also aims to promote the protection of human rights by highlighting Article 4 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which prohibits slavery and servitude.
